KUCHING: The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) is keen to lure midfielder Joseph Kallang back to the state from TTeam Terengganu.
An FAS source said it was likely Sarawak would attempt to sign the talented midfielder to strengthen the Crocs for the 2011 Mleague. Kallang still has a one-year contract to run with T-Team. “Should Terengganu FA agree to release him, we will definitely take him back,” the source said.
However, it added, TTeam were not likely to agree to a free transfer for Kallang and the contract between the two FAs on the player’s future movement had to be studied thoroughly. “Should we take him back, we would have to pay all his one-year wage to Terengganu under the contract” Kallang, 22, who played for the East coast team in the Super League this year, has helped Terengganu retain their 2010 Sukma football team gold medal in Melaka, beating Selangor in the final.
Together with Kallang on FAS wanted list is Rezal Jalil, son of former Crocs captain and coach Jalil Ramli. Talks are rife that Rezal wants to follow in his father’s footsteps by donning state colours.
It is understand the potential midfielder, currently attached to the Police team, is contract-free and will not sign any extension. “We’ll try to get him for selection and if possible, bring him into the team as well.” Rezal caught the eyes of the coaches during his stint with the Police.
He also played (on loan) to Terengganu and managed to impress coach Irfan Bakti. However, Jalil still has the final say on whether his son plays for Sarawak or some other teams. Meanwhile, a one-week selection, headed by coach Mohd Zaki Sheikh Ahmad, is being held to pick players for the Crocs in the 2011 Mleague.
